Breathing Techniques in Martial Arts

Proper breathing is just as important for a martial artist as the ability to punch straight and kick high. This is why a lot of time in martial arts is allotted for learning breathing exercises. Why is it important? Read on to find out.
Breathing properly can keep a person calm and composed even in stressful situations like being in a martial arts competition. It helps provide sufficient amounts of oxygen to the fighter’s body and keeps it from tiring easily, helping him to stay agile and concentrate on his game.
For example, if a person is in a fight and his opponent rains down on him with a barrage of strong attacks, he can begin to panic and draw short rapid breaths. But, because he is trained to breath properly, he is able to correct himself and slowly inhale and exhale deeply. He would then start to relax and concentrate in blocking the opponent’s attacks and look for a chance to slip in his own attacks.
