Boxing as a Form of Martial Arts
It is a common misconception that since boxing did not originate from Asia, it is no longer considered as a martial art. But, if we are strict about the definition, boxing is undoubtedly a martial art and a pretty good one.
If taekwondo has lots of high kicks, karate focuses more on hand techniques and just a few kicks. Meanwhile, boxing specialises only in using the hand for attacks and preserving the feet to move away from the enemy. This is the distinction of boxing.
Boxing also has its set of blocks, attacks, stances, and techniques which are unique to it and cannot be found in any other martial art. In boxing, the feet is trained to move backwards, side to side and forward in a fast and stable manner. This allows a boxer to make lateral movements, which is another one of boxing’s most powerful techniques.
Boxing may not have any mystic shroud around it and no astounding moves, but it is unquestionably and beyond doubt a great martial art that teaches self-defence and discipline to its practitioners.
